Singles League Rules

Keep your eye on the clock

For all time-related rules, the clock on the fence is deemed to be the official time.

What time does the match begin? How long do we warm up?

Allow about 5 minutes to hit practice balls with your opponent. Aim to start your match at five minutes past the hour.

If you require more time to stretch or warm-up, please do so before stepping onto the court.

When is the match complete? What if there is a tie?

The match is complete as soon one of you wins 8 games.

If there is time remaining, you may continue to play but the additional games will not

count towards the match score.

If neither of you wins 8 games within the hour…

What happens if it rains during my match?

If you must stop playing due to rain and you have already completed more than 30 minutes of play, then the match is complete. Include all the completed games in the match score (a tie is not allowed, you must not count the last game in this case). If the winner agrees, you may agree on a rematch at other time.

If you must stop playing due to rain and you have completed less than 30 minutes of play, then you must reschedule the match at another time.

What do we do if we disagree about the rules during a match?

Keep a good attitude – we play for fun!

Complete your match, and afterwards you can clarify either:

What happens if my opponent doesn’t show up to the court?

If you arrive at the courts and your opponent doesn’t show up, then you should contact him/her to ensure that you haven’t made a mistake about the scheduled time.

If there was no error on your part and your opponent did not notify you of his absence prior to the match, then you are entitled to the same amount of points as if you had won the match with a score of 8-0.

When you submit the match score online, make sure to include a note in the comments box to explain what happened. Your opponent will not receive any points for the match.

What happens if I can’t play during a certain 2-week period?

*** IMPORTANT ***

If you are unavailable to play during any 2-week period (e.g. injury, travel), you must notify the organizer prior to the start of that period (by Sunday 8:00 pm the latest).

Your name will be removed from the ladder for that period, which will avoid frustrations for other players and also ensure that you will not be penalized for your absence (i.e. your name will be re-inserted at about the same level when you come back).

Good luck and most of all - have fun!

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
